About Biotechnology Department
The department was established in 2019, and the Department of Biotechnology awards a **Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology (B.Sc. in Biotechnology)**. Graduates of this department are scientifically and practically qualified to work in a wide range of vital sectors, including government, research, industrial, medical, agricultural, and environmental institutions, with an advanced scientific background in basic fields such as molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, and cell biology, as well as mastery of modern techniques in molecular analysis, genetic cloning, genetic modification, and bioproduction. They also have the ability to perform advanced laboratory tests, such as DNA analysis, PCR techniques, bacterial culture, and biochemical tests that contribute to the design and production of vaccines, antibiotics, and biopharmaceuticals. They also need to be able to use modern laboratory equipment and handle biological samples in accordance with biosafety standards, in addition to working in forensic laboratories (genetic fingerprinting, verification of biological evidence), the pharmaceutical and medical supplies sector, companies that produce and market laboratory and agricultural devices and equipment, and private research and development institutions in the fields of biotechnology. An evening program was also introduced in 2022.
