About Geology Department

The Department of Applied Geology was established in the academic year 2008-2009, and 40 students were accepted as the first batch. The department aims to prepare specialized cadres in various geological fields, including mineral and engineering surveys, oil and gas exploration, the environment, and the study of landforms for various uses. The department has focused on introducing new course content tailored to the geological and mineral conditions of Anbar Province.

The department's teaching staff consists of 18 teachers, 10 of whom hold doctoral degrees, including four professors and six assistant professors, and eight hold master's degrees.

A seismic monitoring station was established at Anbar University ANB1, affiliated with the University Seismic Monitoring Network, which is based at the Seismic Monitoring Laboratory at the University of Basra in 2017, under the responsibility of Mr. Osama Jassim Mohammed.

A second seismic monitoring station was established in Rutba District (ANB2) in 2023 with the support of Anbar Governorate and in cooperation with the Rutba District Mayor and the District Agriculture Division.

A master's program in general geology was introduced for the 2019-2020 academic year.

A doctoral program in general geology was introduced for the 2025-2026 academic year.
