The Department of Applied Geology at the College of Science organized a specialized scientific symposium entitled "Hydrocarbon Prospects in the Western Desert/Iraq" on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, in Ibn Sina Hall at the college. This symposium came under the slogan "Anbar Gas is a Pillar of the National Economy", and aimed to shed light on the importance of hydrocarbon clusters in the region and their role in supporting the Iraqi economy.
A group of experts in the field of geology and energy participated in the symposium, where the first lecture was given by expert Hussein Shuwail Awda, Assistant Director General of the Oil Exploration Company / Ministry of Oil, who presented a comprehensive presentation on hydrocarbon prospects in the Western Desert, based on the latest studies and research in this field.
Dr. Basem Fadhel Latif, a lecturer in the Department of Applied Geology, also gave a valuable lecture on the geological aspects related to hydrocarbon prospects in the region, stressing the importance of investing in this field to achieve sustainable development.
This symposium aims to achieve several objectives, the most important of which is to highlight the importance of natural resources in Anbar Governorate and enhance cooperation between academics and industry experts, in addition to encouraging scientific research in the field of geology and energy and contributing to the development of the energy sector in Iraq.
