Awareness seminar entitled “Violence Against Women: Between Culture, Reality, and Religion.”

As part of the College of Science’s ongoing commitment to the “16 Days of Activism Against Violence Against Women and Girls”campaign, the Women’s Affairs Unit, in cooperation with the Media and Government Communications Division, organized a specialized and comprehensive awareness seminar entitled “Violence Against Women: Between Culture, Reality, and Religion.”

The seminar was held on Thursday, 11 December 2025, and witnessed notable attendance from faculty members, staff, and students interested in human-rights and social issues. The session was moderated by "Dr. Hajar Shehab Hamad" and "Lecturer Lina Khalid Kamil", while "Aya Mohammed Hamad", a third-year student in the Department of Biology, contributed to presenting the seminar’s thematic components.

The seminar offered an in-depth analysis of the various dimensions of violence against women. It explored the social and legal realities by reviewing different forms of violence and their negative consequences, while also addressing cultural misconceptions by deconstructing social and cultural notions that may justify violence or silence around it. In addition, the seminar examined the religious and ethical perspective, emphasizing religious principles that honor women and prohibit all forms of violence and discrimination against them.

This seminar aligns with the college’s mission to promote awareness and foster a university and local community free from violence, reiterating that addressing this phenomenon requires comprehensive legal, cultural, and religious understanding.
