College of Science Holds a Specialized Workshop on “Bioremediation of Industrial Waste” to Promote Environmental Sustainability"
As part of its efforts to link scientific disciplines with environmental issues and sustainable development, the College of Science organized a specialized workshop entitled “Bioremediation of Industrial Waste.”
The workshop was held on Sunday, 30 November 2025, in the Jaber Ibn Hayyan Hall and was conducted by the College’s Career Development and Employment Unit. Its purpose was to guide students and interested participants toward research and career opportunities in the field of environmental biotechnology.
The workshop was delivered by "Dr. Yasser Mohsen Youssef", who highlighted the growing importance of bioremediation and its essential role in reducing the environmental impact of industrial waste through the use of microorganisms and enzymes to break down pollutants.
The workshop focused on providing participants with comprehensive knowledge by explaining how microorganisms and enzymes function in the degradation and removal of industrial contaminants. It also enabled attendees to distinguish between different bioremediation techniques, such as aerobic treatment, anaerobic treatment, and "phytoremediation", in addition to presenting case studies and practical applications for remediating industrial pollutants. The workshop further aimed to enhance students’ skills in industrial waste management and shed light on employment prospects in environmental biotechnology.
This workshop reaffirms the College of Science’s commitment to developing students’ skills and preparing them for a labor market that increasingly adopts environmentally friendly practices.
