Coinciding with the Iraqi Anti-Drug Week activities, the College of Science is organizing an intensive awareness seminar on "Combating Drugs" with the attendance of security and health leaders.
In a proactive national response, and in conjunction with the activities of the "Iraqi Anti-Drug Week", the College of Science, through its "University Psychological Guidance Unit", organized a detailed and specialized awareness seminar titled: "“The Dangers of Drugs and Mechanisms to Limit Their Spread in the University Community.”
The seminar, held today, Thursday, 20 November , 2025, was attended by "Prof. Dr. Ismat Ramzi Abdel-Ghafoor", Dean of the College of Science, alongside faculty members and students, reflecting the joint concern of both academic and security sectors regarding this critical issue. The college hosted a distinguished group of experts and specialists to present the seminar’s comprehensive topics, including:
Major Namir Sami Anad, Director of the Rehabilitation Center for Addicts – Al-Anbar
Researcher Mohammed Tamir Abd, Head of the Police Friends Division – Anbar Police Command
Legal Advisor "Marwan Mohammed Abdullah", Head of Media and Relations at the Rehabilitation Center for Addicts
Dr. Latif Ahmed Abboud, Retired Physician
The seminar included a detailed lecture on the "dangers of narcotic substances on physical and mental health", as well as how this scourge infiltrates the university community. Visual presentations depicting real cases of addiction were used to deliver a strong, direct warning to students about the severe consequences of drug use and addiction.
The seminar aimed to provide participants with the knowledge necessary to "limit the spread of drugs", understand the "legal procedures enforced by security authorities", and discuss the roles of "friends, family, and educational institutions" in prevention and early detection.
During his speech, the Dean emphasized:
"We believe that protection begins with awareness, and the presence of these security and health leaders today confirms that our university stands at the forefront in confronting this scourge. We will implement all recommendations from this seminar to safeguard our university environment."
