Under the Slogan “Early Detection… Live Safely”: An Awareness Lecture on Early Breast Cancer Detection, Causes, Symptoms, and Prevention

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science, Prof. Dr. Ismat Ramzi Abdul-Ghafoor, the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College organized an awareness event on breast cancer on Wednesday, 29 October 2025, at Jaber Ibn Hayyan Hall.

The event opened with a welcoming address in which the Unit’s coordinator emphasized the importance of promoting health awareness and encouraging a culture of early screening as a key measure for disease prevention. This was followed by scientific lectures delivered by Assist. Prof. Dr. Mina Sabah Farman, Assist. Prof. Dr. Yusra Mahmoud Hamadi, and Lecturer Hajar Hamad Shehab. The lectures addressed the causes of breast cancer, its symptoms, and methods of prevention, with particular emphasis on the significance of early detection and the provision of psychological support for patients.

The event also featured a visual awareness presentation demonstrating the steps of breast self-examination, in addition to the distribution of educational brochures to attendees. The activity witnessed notable participation from faculty members, staff, and students of the College, who commended the efforts of the Women’s Affairs Unit in organizing this important initiative.
