Students of the Department of Applied Geology Begin Their Field Course in Shaqlawa

The field course activities for students of the Department of Applied Geology, College of Science, have commenced in the Shaqlawa area, Erbil Governorate, northern Iraq, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ali Mishaal Abd along with a group of faculty members from the department. This course is part of the department’s annual field training program.

The field course aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, enabling students to identify and study various geological structures in the region and to apply the concepts they have acquired during their academic coursework in a real field environment. It also seeks to equip students with essential practical skills in geology, including observation, measurement, and geological interpretation.

On the first day of the course, students were introduced to rock outcrops, field measurement techniques, and methods for correlating geological map information with the locations and extensions of geological structures in the study area. This initial phase laid the foundation for developing students’ field competencies and enhancing their understanding of applied geological work.
