The present study investigated the comparative analysis of biofilm components among Staphylococcus aureus, where the concentrations of proteins, eDNA and polysaccharides were estimated. The prevalence of the gene encoding serine-aspartate repeat protein was examined in both MRSA and MSSA isolates. The effect of myrtle extract on biofilm inhibition was investigated. The results showed that the biofilms of MRSA isolates contained higher amounts of proteins and eDNA than those of MSSA isolates, while the concentrations of polysaccharides were higher in the biofilms of MSSA isolates, and SDR genes were more common in methicillin-resistant isolates than in methicillin-susceptible isolates. The results demonstrated the strong activity of myrtle extract on Staphylococcus aureus biofilms.
