In collaboration with the Oncology Center, "The College of Science Organizes an Awareness Scientific Seminar on Recent Medical Advances in Cancer Treatment."

As part of promoting health and community awareness, and reaffirming the university’s role in serving society, the University Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Science, in joint collaboration with the University Presidency’s Psychological Counseling Division and the Anbar Specialized Oncology Treatment Center, organized an extensive scientific and awareness seminar entitled “Recent Advances in Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment” on Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Jabir Ibn Hayyan Hall.

The seminar witnessed remarkable attendance and engagement, led by the Dean of the College of Science, Prof. Dr. Ismat Ramzi Abdul Ghafour, alongside a distinguished group of faculty members and students. In his remarks, the Dean emphasized the significance of organizing such specialized seminars that address issues directly impacting society, praising the effective and fruitful collaboration with specialized healthcare institutions in promoting medical awareness. He also stressed the importance of psychological support as an integral component of the treatment and recovery journey.

The seminar was chaired by Asst. Prof. Dr. Wijdan Ahmed Ali and featured prominent medical and academic experts who enriched the seminar’s themes. Lectures were delivered by Dr. Nabil Mazhar Talib, director of the Anbar Specialized Oncology Treatment Center; Prof. Dr. Hamid Hussein Ali; and Lecturer Dr. Samar Mohammed Abdul-Ilah.

During the seminar, the speakers reviewed the latest technologies and medical protocols adopted globally and locally in the early diagnosis of cancer, which is considered a fundamental pillar for treatment success. They also highlighted the most recent therapeutic approaches available, with particular emphasis on the psychological and awareness dimensions for patients and their families in overcoming health-related challenges, in alignment with the objectives and mission of university psychological counseling.

At the conclusion of the seminar, the floor was opened for discussion and audience interventions, where scientific and medical inquiries were addressed amid significant interaction and broad appreciation for the valuable information presented. These contributions play a direct role in enhancing health awareness both within the university campus and beyond.
