The study aimed to develop a unique aerogel material incorporating amine-functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as a promising strategy for carbon dioxide (CO2) capture and storage. This method is particularly relevant for mitigating CO2 emissions from industrial sources before they enter the atmosphere, as well as for direct air capture.

To evaluate the performance of amine-modified CNT aerogels in CO2 adsorption, the research utilized various characterization techniques. The study also focused on measuring adsorption capacity, analyzing different adsorption models, and assessing the kinetics of CO2 uptake.

Results indicated that activating CNTs using sodium hydroxide before synthesizing the aerogel significantly enhanced CO2 adsorption efficiency. This improvement was attributed to increased porosity and optimized surface chemistry, making the material highly effective for carbon capture applications.

The study’s findings contribute valuable insights into developing advanced materials for carbon capture technologies, essential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change.
