Dr. Najeeb Mohammed Hussein, from the College of Science, Department of Biology, and Dr. Omar Al-Muharib, from the College of Agriculture, Department of Food Sciences, have published an influential scientific study in collaboration with a foreign researcher in a prestigious journal ranked in the top quartile with a CiteScore of 8.2.
The research focuses on a study of the effect of the bromelain enzyme, extracted from pineapple, on gene expression and blood parameters in laboratory mice. The study revealed promising positive results, as the enzyme demonstrated a remarkable ability to improve digestive health, contribute to weight loss, and regenerate liver cells. Most excitingly, it reduces the gene expression of digestive enzymes, leading to reduced nutrient absorption and effective weight loss. This study represents an innovative simulation of the drug Xenical, currently used to reduce fat absorption and aid weight loss. The researchers are preparing to register this unique scientific discovery as a patent, adding it to the long list of scientific achievements of Anbar University professors, who consistently and fruitfully contribute to serving society and developing innovative health solutions.
