The Women's Affairs Unit at the College of Science at the University of Anbar organized a workshop entitled “The role of women in reducing pollution and its impact on climate change” on Sunday, August 17, 2025. As part of the activities of the Women's Affairs Unit at the College of Science, the workshop was attended by Prof. Yusra Mahmoud Hamadi, head of the Women's Affairs Unit at the college, and Eng. Anhar Abdul Salam Ouda, Department of Physics.
The workshop highlighted the interrelationship between environmental pollution and climate change and the role of women in reducing pollution. “Women, by virtue of their multiple roles in the family and society, are at the forefront of addressing environmental impacts. Empowering them not only means achieving social justice, but is also a strategic investment in building a more sustainable future.”
The workshop reviewed the practical contributions that women can lead on three main levels: at home, by adopting environmentally friendly practices such as waste sorting, rationalizing energy and water consumption, and choosing sustainable products; In education, by instilling environmental values in new generations and spreading awareness in their social circles. In society, by leading local awareness initiatives such as tree planting and cleanliness campaigns, supporting green projects, and actively participating in environmental decision-making.
