The aim of the study is to pure and CeO?-doped NiO thin films were successfully prepared using the chemical spray pyrolysis technique at 350°C. Structural analysis (XRD, AFM, FESEM, and EDX) confirmed the polycrystalline rhombohedral structure, uniform distribution of quasi-spherical grains, and a gradual reduction in grain and crystal size with doping, enhancing surface homogeneity. Optical results showed a bandgap of 3.8 eV for pure NiO, decreasing with CeO? doping. Gas sensing studies revealed improved sensitivity to CO? and H?S, with the best CO? response at 5% Ce and highest H?S sensitivity at 7% Ce, making the films promising candidates for gas sensor applications.
