Continuing Its Cultural Week Activities: "Department of Biology Highlights the World of Microbiology and Food Safety"

The Cultural Week activities of the Department of Biology continued into their fourth day in a distinguished scientific and interactive atmosphere. Wednesday, April 22, 2026, was dedicated to "Microbiology," attracting wide participation from students, faculty members, and individuals interested in scientific affairs.

The day featured an exhibition of laboratory models, bacterial cultures, and scientific displays illustrating the intricate world of microorganisms. It also included educational and awareness posters addressing various topics in microbiology and their impact on public health and the environment, with the aim of enhancing scientific awareness and linking theoretical knowledge to practical application. In addition, participants were introduced to key laboratory techniques and instruments used in the isolation and identification of microorganisms, adding a distinctive interactive dimension to the activities.

The event also included an inspection tour by the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Ismat Ramzi Abdul Ghafour, who visited the exhibition and reviewed the scientific outputs and models presented by students. The Dean commended the efforts made, the high scientific standards, and the excellent organization, reaffirming the College’s commitment to supporting activities that enhance students’ skills and strengthen their practical competencies.

The day’s program also featured a specialized scientific lecture delivered by Professor Dr. Laith Muslih Najeeb, entitled “Foodborne Microbial Diseases and Associated Microbial Risk Factors.” The lecture addressed major bacterial and microbial agents transmitted through food, sources of contamination, and preventive measures to ensure food safety and protect public health.

This activity forms part of a broader series of initiatives aimed at developing students’ scientific culture and encouraging innovation and research across various fields of life sciences.
