The College of Science beginning "Awareness Week" Against Drugs with Student Leadership, Presentations, and Poetic Creations

In active response to the national campaign and in implementation of the directives of the University President, Professor Dr. Mushtaq Talib Al-Neda, the College of Science launched an intensive series of events and awareness campaigns to mark the Iraqi Anti-Drug Week. This initiative was organized by the University Psychological Counseling Unit at the College, with the direct support and active participation of the Dean, Professor Dr. Ismat Ramzi Abdul Ghafour, the Vice Deans, and the Heads of Academic Departments. The events aimed to raise awareness of the dangers of this scourge and protect the university community and youth from its negative effects. The first few days featured a rich and diverse program, including:

Day One: The opening of a comprehensive visual exhibition that broke the silence surrounding the issue. The exhibition featured a collection of innovative awareness posters and paintings created by the college's students. The exhibition reflected a deep understanding among the students of the dangers of drugs and their impact on the social fabric and public health. The Dean and the Heads of Departments toured the exhibition, commending the students' artistic and scientific efforts in conveying the message of awareness. The second day featured a scientific competition to promote preventative awareness, shifting the focus of the event to a competitive aspect. A scientific competition was held among students from various departments within the college. The competition aimed to enhance scientific knowledge about the dangers of drugs and methods of prevention, as well as to cultivate a spirit of positive competition among the students.

The third day showcased the creativity of young people in confronting the serious scourge of drugs. It included impactful and engaging activities, such as a scientific presentation by students from the Biotechnology Department on the biological and physiological effects of drugs.

Additionally, a significant and impactful external contribution came from student Abu Bakr Ismat from Hibat Al-Rahman Private School. He presented an educational video for young people, which he wrote and designed, highlighting the dangers of this scourge and how addicts can overcome it, thus broadening the scope of awareness. The third day concluded with a creative segment: a poetry platform was set up where several college students recited expressive and elegant poems, conveying powerful messages about combating drugs and upholding a dignified life. For his part, the Dean emphasized in his speech that "combating drugs is a battle of awareness before it is a security battle, and we thank the Psychological Counseling Unit and our creative students for this pioneering initiative."
