College of Science Explores the “Secrets of Enzymes” in a Specialized Workshop Linking Biology with Food and Pharmaceuticals
As part of its activities aimed at enhancing applied knowledge and linking scientific disciplines to labor market needs, the College of Science held a specialized scientific workshop entitled “A Journey into the World of Enzymes: Secrets and Innovative Solutions between Food and Medicine.” The workshop took place on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, at Ibn Sina Hall in the college.
The workshop was attended by students, researchers, and individuals interested in the food and pharmaceutical industries. It was delivered by Prof. Dr. Hamid Hussein Ali, Head of the Department of Chemistry, who highlighted the pivotal importance of enzymes as biological catalysts in vital and industrial processes. The lecture addressed the latest scientific concepts and applications of enzymes in the fields of food and pharmaceuticals, with a particular focus on their effective role in developing innovative solutions that contribute to improving quality of life—whether through the development of new drugs or the enhancement of the quality and safety of food products.
The workshop was moderated by Dr. Najeeb Mohammed Hussein, Head of the College’s Rehabilitation and Employment Unit, who emphasized that the primary objective of such activities is to guide students and researchers toward applied fields that open broad professional and research opportunities after graduation.
In turn, the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Ismat Ramzi Abdul Ghafour, commended the workshop and praised the importance of its theme, noting its strong alignment with the requirements of both local and global labor markets. He reaffirmed the college administration’s continued support for activities organized by the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit, which aim to enhance students’ competencies and prepare them professionally.
