Prof. Dr. Ismat Ramzi Abdul Ghafoor, Dean of the College of Science, participated in the periodic meeting of the Committee of Deans of Colleges of Science at Iraqi Universities, which was held on Wednesday, 15 October 2025, at the College of Science, University of Mosul.

The meeting, which brought together deans of colleges of science from various Iraqi universities, discussed a number of important academic and administrative issues related to the development of the educational process and scientific research in the basic sciences. Key discussions focused on reviewing and updating academic curricula to keep pace with global scientific advancements, enhancing joint research collaboration among colleges to raise the level of scientific publishing, and exploring ways to develop infrastructure and laboratory facilities in colleges of science. The meeting also addressed challenges facing academic work and proposed procedures to address them.

Participants further emphasized the importance of supporting inter-university research collaboration projects and providing the necessary funding, as well as strengthening academic exchange programs to develop the capacities of faculty members and students. The meeting also discussed mechanisms for preparing highly qualified academic staff capable of leading rigorous research that contributes to enhancing Iraq’s scientific standing at both regional and international levels.

In his remarks, Prof. Dr. Ismat Ramzi Abdul Ghafoor stressed the importance of such meetings in facilitating the exchange of expertise and perspectives among deans of colleges of science, noting that active participation contributes to unifying national efforts to improve the quality of scientific education outcomes and meet labor market requirements. He also reaffirmed the College’s commitment to implementing the decisions and recommendations issued by the committee to ensure high-quality academic and administrative performance.

This meeting comes within the framework of ongoing efforts to advance the higher education sector in Iraq and to strengthen the role of colleges of science as a key driver of knowledge-based and research-oriented development.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Ismat Ramzi Abdul Ghafoor expressed his appreciation to the University of Mosul administration and the Committee of Deans of Colleges of Science in Iraq for the excellent organization and efforts that ensured the success of the meeting, calling for the continuation of such gatherings and the further development of coordination mechanisms among Iraqi universities in support of education and scientific research.
