College of Science Participates in the Periodic Meeting of the Arab Association for Materials Science and Nanotechnology
Assist.Prof. Dr. Qais Abdullah Abbas, a faculty member of the Department of Physics at the College of Science, participated— in his capacity as a member of the Higher Administrative Board— in the periodic meeting of the Arab Association for Materials Science and Nanotechnology (Iraq Branch). The meeting was held at Bayt Al-Hikma in Baghdad on Monday, 26 January 2026.
The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Thamer Al-Kazemi, Secretary-General of the Association (Iraq Branch), which operates under the Union of Arab Scientific Research Councils affiliated with the League of Arab States. The meeting was attended by members of the Higher Board and a distinguished group of liaison members representing various universities, ministries, and relevant institutions.
The meeting included an in-depth discussion of the outcomes of previous meetings with the Union’s leadership, notably with Prof.r Dr. Abdelmajid Benamara, President of the Union of Arab Scientific Research Councils; Professor Dr. Fathi Al-Mansouri, General Coordinator of the Arab Associations; and Professor Dr. Baha’a Al-Saabari, Deputy Secretary-General.
Participants focused on developing effective mechanisms to organize the Association’s institutional work and on formulating strategies to expand the scope of its scientific and research activities. Emphasis was placed on strengthening joint coordination with governmental and non-governmental bodies at the local, regional, and international levels to support and advance scientific research in the fields of materials science and nanotechnology.
At the conclusion of the meeting, attendees discussed the initial preparatory steps and required arrangements for convening the First International Conference of the Arab Association for Materials Science and Nanotechnology – Iraq Branch, planned to be held in the near future.
