College of Science Concludes Its Annual Chess Championship
Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science, Prof. Dr. Ismat Ramzi Abdul Ghafour, and as part of the College’s strategy to support extracurricular activities and develop students’ intellectual skills, the College concluded the competitions of its annual Chess Championship amid wide participation and a highly enthusiastic competitive atmosphere.
The College corridors witnessed exciting matches that reflected the cultural and intellectual dimension of university life, as halls transformed into arenas of strategic thinking and carefully calculated moves. The championship was not merely about moving wooden pieces; rather, it represented a true test of patience, keen observation, and strategic planning—qualities that equally distinguish science students in their laboratories and academic journeys.
The tournament rounds were characterized by strong competition and high sportsmanship among students from various scientific departments, fostering communication and intellectual exchange. After a series of intense and dramatic matches that captivated attendees, student Yaseen Sufyan was crowned Chess Champion of the College of Science for this year, delivering an exceptional performance and well-structured strategies. Meanwhile, student Abdullah Fahad secured second place with merit, demonstrating remarkable skill in reading opponents’ moves and maneuvering intelligently throughout the competition.
At the conclusion of the event, which was directly supervised and organized by a specialized committee of faculty members, the first- and second-place winners were honored and awarded excellence shields in the presence of faculty members and students. The efforts of the College in successfully organizing this intellectual and sporting event were widely praised, reflecting its esteemed academic standing.
