Council of the College of Science Holds Its Fourth Open Session

The Council of the College of Science held its fourth open session (Part Three and final) on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, chaired by the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Ismat Ramzi Abdul Ghafour, and attended by all council members. In line with the College’s commitment to institutional integration and the implementation of quality assurance standards, the Council hosted the Head of the Quality Assurance and University Performance Division, along with unit officials and liaison members, to discuss mechanisms for improving performance and evaluating key indicators.

The session included comprehensive discussions on a range of strategic academic and administrative issues listed on the agenda. Key areas of focus included reviewing promotion files for a number of faculty members and completing the necessary formal procedures in support of academic advancement. The Council also discussed proposed plans for introducing new postgraduate programs aligned with the College’s scientific vision and responsive to development needs and labor market demands.

In addition, mechanisms for activating the **Health Security and Community Project** were reviewed, aiming to strengthen the college's leading role in community service and in providing scientific solutions to health and environmental challenges. The Council also discussed the establishment of a seismic monitoring unit, considered a significant strategic step to enhance research infrastructure and support the applied dimension of the Department of Applied Geology.

Furthermore, the Council approved the formation of specialized research groups and teams to promote academic rigor, encourage high-quality publications in international indexed journals, and foster a collaborative research culture.

At the conclusion of the session, the Council completed discussions on the remaining agenda items and adopted the necessary decisions and recommendations to ensure continued academic and administrative progress at the College of Science and to support its distinguished trajectory.
