When Art Speaks the Language of the Environment: Science Students Portray the Planet’s Suffering in a Distinguished Theatrical Performance “The Earth Cries Out"

As part of its extracurricular initiatives, the College of Science organized a meaningful theatrical performance aimed at strengthening environmental awareness. Affirming the role of educational institutions in promoting environmental culture and social responsibility, the College of Science hosted a distinguished extracurricular activity organized by the College Deanship, featuring a short and purposeful theatrical performance entitled “The Earth Cries Out.” This exceptional activity sought to instill environmental awareness among students and shed light on the serious threats facing our planet as a result of rising pollution levels and irresponsible human practices. Students from the Department of Life Sciences (second year / evening studies) delivered an outstanding performance. Through expressive and emotionally powerful scenes, they successfully embodied the “suffering” of planet Earth, highlighting the daily damage caused by industrial, commercial, and household waste, random disposal of garbage, excessive use of chemicals, and various forms of manufactured pollutants.

In a brief address during the event, the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Ismat Ramzi Abdul Ghafour, praised the students’ remarkable performance and their dedicated efforts in conveying this noble message. He emphasized that the College Deanship strongly supports such initiatives and extracurricular activities, as they break academic rigidity and contribute to shaping students’ personalities. He further noted that the true mission of the university lies in cultivating awareness and preparing responsible individuals capable of protecting their environment and community.

For their part, the supervisors of the performance, Assist. Prof. Dr. Sattar Salem Ibrahim and Dr. Yasser Mohsen Yousif, stressed in their awareness message the necessity of adopting positive and sustainable behaviors to confront environmental challenges. They underscored the importance of recycling culture, rational consumption, and strict conservation of natural resources to safeguard the future of coming generations.
